Ramunė Balevičiūtė
Ramunė Balevičiūtė is a dramaturge, lecturer, critic. In 2010, she graduated from the doctoral studies in theatre science at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LATM). Currently she is a lecturer at LAMT and the dramaturge at the State Small Theatre of Vilnius. From 2001, she has been writing theatre criticism on Lithuanian and foreign theatre.
Ramunė Balevičiūtė’s "Intercriticism as a Generator of Theatre Ideas" describes the notion of intercriticism as the mission of a theatre critic, which at the same time represents one of the most difficult aspects of contemporary staging. Owing to his/her status, authority and talent, a critic may become a kind of ideologue for a theatre about which he/she writes and through this directly contribute to the performing arts in the country, while at the same time not being simply representative of a specific artist taking advantage of the opportunity. He gives the example of the staging of The Cherry Orchard in the suburb of Vilna, directed by the Finnish director, Kristian Smeds, as an explicit example of a co-creative achievement of a theatre critic and theatre practicians.
